Answer
The Finaghy crossroads is an extremely busy junction with 10 vehicle and pedestrian movements to be managed safely and efficiently.
To achieve this, my Department introduced a state-of-the-art form of dynamic traffic signal control called MOVA (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation). This measures traffic flow on each approach and adapts signal timings, in real time, according to prevailing traffic flow, to ensure optimal traffic flow at this junction.
The junction is also actively monitored using the Department’s CCTV camera network and signal timings are adjusted to reflect traffic conditions and to reduce congestion.
As such, I can confirm that the traffic light phasing is considered to be optimal.
