Answer
The report by the Nuffield Trust in September 2022 outlined a number of findings on efficiency and productivity across Northern Ireland's Health and Social Care System (HSC).
The updated Elective Care Framework (ECF), published in May 2024, sets out the strategic direction for elective care with targeted actions aimed at improving productivity and efficiency and driving value for money.
Against a challenging financial backdrop, a programme of work is well underway to ensure optimal efficiency and throughput across the HSC system. The aim is to maximise the resources at our disposal to ultimately deliver greater levels of activity and access to high quality elective care services on a sustainable basis for patients waiting for treatment.
I will continue to drive through the improvements needed to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of services, wherever and whenever possible.
