Answer
Insurance is a reserved matter, with its legislation and regulation overseen by UK authorities, including HM Treasury, in London.
I have engaged with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) through correspondence shared with the Motor Insurance Taskforce – of which the FCA is a member. The correspondence reiterated local insurance affordability concerns raised at a bilateral meeting with the Minister for Finance and the British Government’s Minister for the Future of Roads.
My Department remains focused on measures within its remit to help reduce costs for motorists, including: improving road safety and infrastructure, supporting new and novice drivers, advocating for safety-focused vehicle technology, and working with partners to minimise uninsured driving.
