Answer
The evidence provided by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), based on Comparethemarket data, shows that the average comprehensive motor insurance quote here was £650.93 in March 2025—the seventh lowest of the 14 UK regions. This also reflects a notable decrease from £767.09 in November 2024.
My Department has no direct legislative influence over the prices set by insurance companies, which are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Nevertheless, my Department has considered the ABI’s written evidence and continues to focus on work aligned to four steps of their ten-step plan, aimed at reducing costs for all drivers: improving road safety and infrastructure; supporting new and novice drivers; advocating for safety-focused vehicle technology; and working with partners to minimise uninsured driving.
