AQW 16243/22-27 Written question to the Minister for Infrastructure
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure for his assessment of the lane arrangements at Finaghy crossroads, given that traffic, notably going in the direction from Finaghy Road South to Finaghy Road North, is often unable to move during peak times as it is obstructed by vehicles turning left.

Answer
I can advise that the current traffic signal sequencing at Finaghy crossroads is complex, with up to 6 traffic movements and 4 pedestrian movements that need to be controlled efficiently but more importantly, safely, within the limited road space available.
During peak periods the traffic lanes leading to and from this junction run at full capacity and with limited road space there is only one traffic lane on the legs exiting the junction. Due to the bus stop on the Upper Lisburn Road country bound side of the junction, traffic on occasions tails back to the lights causing congestion.
Given the limited road space, the current traffic signalling arrangement and road marking layout at this junction provides the best possible balance between the competing demands of through and turning traffic. There are no plans to make any changes at this location.
