ANSWER

The General Register Office currently provides the option for births to be registered with a choice of certificate headings in English, Irish or bi-lingual English/Irish with all content in English. This was introduced on 11 March 2022 with the implementation of The Marriage, Civil Partnership and Civil Registration (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2022. There is currently no provision for birth certificates published before

11 March 2022 to be translated into Irish by the General Register Office.

This provision has changed since the beginning of the 2020-21 financial year in that it is now possible for births to be registered with a choice of certificate headings.
