Answer
I met with the Minister for the Economy in November 2024 as part of the work to finalise the Housing Supply Strategy, during which the issue of short-term lets and their interaction with housing supply was raised.
Following this meeting, my officials led on setting up a joint working group comprised of officials from DfC, DfE, DfI to commission research and establish evidence on the nature, scale and potential impacts of short-term holiday lets on local housing markets.
This research has been commissioned and is currently ongoing. Following its conclusion, intended to be later this year, future policy options will be assessed.
