Answer

We recognise the profound harm caused by clerical child abuse and extend our deepest sympathy and solidarity to all victims and survivors of this appalling abuse. Throughout this process the Junior Ministers have engaged with victims and survivors to hear their stories and their views on what is needed. We are very grateful to all those who have participated in the process and shared their experiences. Work has now completed on three separate pieces of research: one examining records held by faith organisations and statutory agencies; one recording experiences and expectations of victims and survivors; and one examining the safeguarding policies and practices of faith groups. We have received the research reports and are giving them careful consideration. We also met with the independent chair of the Interdepartmental Working Group on 10 November 2025.
