Answer

My Department is continuing to develop the residents' parking scheme already commenced in the Iveagh area of Belfast and will give consideration to a scheme to address the emerging pressures with on-street parking in the vicinity of the Ulster University campus in Belfast.

In addition, following the publication of my Department’s Residents’ Parking Review Report on 29 November 2024, there has been a significant level of interest for the establishment of residents’ parking zones across the north. Given the level of demand, and ongoing budgetary and resource constraints, I have asked my officials to expedite the development of an application process for demand-led schemes and an assessment process for all potential residents’ parking schemes to ensure that any requests can be appropriately considered.

This process will take into account the findings and recommendations of the report and provide a streamlined approach for considering, assessing and prioritising requests for residents parking schemes going forward.

It is my intention to make an announcement as to how future schemes will be assessed by my Department in due course.
