Answer
The Primary Care Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Programme is a partnership between GP Federations and HSC Trusts which introduces new physiotherapy, social work and mental health roles into general practice, to work alongside the existing practice teams.
The MDT Programme remains key to stabilising and strengthening vital Primary Care services. Phase I sees the confirmation of £61m of Transformation funding which over the next four years 2025-29 will see the MDT Programme brought to completion in the 7 GP Federations which have already commenced and expansion into an additional 5 GP Federation areas with a combined population of 670,000.
Phase II is anticipated to run for a further 3-4 years from 2029-30 and would see MDT complete in the remaining 5 GP Federation areas. Practice 136 (Mount Oriel Medical Practice) is located in Knockbreda Wellbeing and Treatment Centre, South Belfast Federation, which would be included in Phase II. Plans for completion for both Phase I and II are currently being worked up and include remaining federation areas from April 2029 onwards, and are in line with previously agreed roll-out order.
