Answer

My Department is committed to proactive and meaningful stakeholder engagement in the delivery of any major infrastructure project.

In 2021, and prior to any route selection for the BRT2 project, my department undertook a significant public consultation exercise between 26th July and 4th October. This engagement gathered a wide range of stakeholder feedback, from local councils, community groups and businesses in the area.

The findings were reviewed, detailed in a report and published on my Department’s website in October 2022 (Belfast Rapid Transit Phase 2 – Consultation Report | Department for Infrastructure). This report helped to shape the selection of the preferred route for BRT2.

Further work will be undertaken to ensure appropriate and meaningful engagement with key stakeholders throughout the BRT2 scheme development and delivery, which will include formal briefings and ad hoc meetings with individuals and interest groups.

Public Information Events will be held as the project progresses through detailed design and into delivery.
