Answer
The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) member Awarding Organisations, delivering public examinations throughout the UK, manage medical conditions in accordance with specific guidance documentation. As per these JCQ guidelines, access arrangements are agreed in advance of an assessment to allow candidates to demonstrate what they know and can do without affecting the integrity of the assessment.
The appropriate access arrangement for each candidate, which may include extra time allowances, must be determined on a case-by-case basis by the School’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and based upon diagnostic assessments and other evidence retained within the school.
